TRAINING IN THE UK
The British Council
Client Funded Training Scheme (CFT)
The British Council is permitted by the General Medical Council (GMC) to
sponsor doctors of a high calibre for limited registration with exemption from
the PLAB test. In order to qualify for British Council sponsorship, you need
to have completed a one year post-graduation internship in an approved hospital
and three years training in the speciality in which you wish to work in the UK.
The scheme is managed jointly by the British Council overseas offices and the
Health Sector Team in the British Council Headquarters in Manchester. Initial
approaches should be made through the local office in your home country or to
the Manchester office if you are already in the UK. The British Council will
arrange a training placement in the UK and will sponsor you for limited
registration with the GMC. This sponsorship can last for up to five years.
Applying for the CFT
Scheme
If you wish to be considered for the CFT scheme, you should submit all
of the following documents to the Health Sector Team at the British Council in
Manchester:

regards to training.
5. An IELTS test result
An overall score of 7.0 in the IELTS (International English Language Testing
System) test as well as a minimum score of 6.0 in each band (if you wish to
take up a supernumerary post). If you prefer to apply for paid posts, you will
need to have an overall score of 7.0 with 7.0 in each band before the British
Council agrees to sponsor you. If you have not yet sat the IELTS test the
British Council will consider your application and request you to sit it if
they feel that you are suitable for sponsorship.
